Aberdeen on the Weekends

There's a little neighborhood near our side of Hong Kong called Aberdeen. They have a city square where they hold outdoor events, like Chinese opera. It is a really "different" sound to the Western Ear!

This casual opera performance was during Christmas time.

Looking in the distance you can see the performers, just barely. We couldn't stay long - - it is difficult to listen to for the untrained ear.
The most fascinating thing about Aberdeen, I find, is how the older gentlemen gather there in droves to hang out together outdoors. They line all the public park areas and nearby benches. I think we were there a little later in the day - - if you get there early, you will see all of them with their newspapers! They are studying the horse-racing results - - Hong Kongers are wild about the horse races!
